Yes, you can charge electric cars in Looe, there are quite a few chargers,
The vast majority are found in the Millpool carpark. There is one rapid PoGo charger (up to 50kW) with a CCS and CHAdeMO plug.
There are also 6 Evolt slow, untethered, charging points in the same car park (up to 7kW) where you will need your own cable. These are ideal for plugging in if you leave your car to spend th day in Looe.
In the Boatyard carpark (next to Millpool), there are 3 22kW Type 2 chargers.
From experience, we've used the Evolt ones twice, but tend to have difficulty getting them to work when using contactless payment.
The PoGo charger has also given me a few problems but if the contactless reader doesn't work, I used the app to pay and that was absolutely fine.
Charging electric vehicles is usually very easy and.we do it regularly in Looe, but as there is only the one rapid charger, at peak times, you'll need to be quick to get in.
There a many pubs and restaurants in Looe that serve a Sunday Roast. In peak seasons they get very busy so booking ahead is a must. Some of the more popular places for a Sunday Roast are:
- The Golden Guinea - Fore Street
- The Smugglers Cott - East Looe
- The Portbyhan Hotel - The Quay, West Looe
- Habour Moon - Quayside, West Looe
This is a controversial question and more controversial answer, as it is all down to personal preference. There are many places in Looe that serve amazing pasties of all flavours, not just your traditional Cornish Pasty.
The shop that probably gets the most compliments about their pasties is Sarah's Pasties, found at 6 Buller Street, only one minute walk from Banjo Cottage. It's distinctive blue and white decoration make it easy to spot.
Pasties at Sarah's sell out quickly so get there early.
There are many other cafes in Looe that serve pasties so do try lots during your stay.
Coffee is a very personal choice, with all sorts of types of coffee and bean. My personal preference is a Latte, and in my opinion, the cafe that serves the best latte in Looe, is Lammana. A small specialty coffee shop found in in East Looe in the alley down the side of Kelly's fish and chips. Whilst not one of the best locations in Looe, it is beautifully decorated inside and the staff take extra care when making and serving the coffee and there is a choice of bean to choose from.
Not many pubs in Looe have outside space, however hands down winner of the best beer garden is The Golden Guinea on Fore Street in East Looe.
From the front it does not look like there could be any space, but they have created an amazing outside seating area and bar built into to cliff wall behind the pub that would easily seat over 100 people.
It is not open all year round but it is open in the warmer months and is very much worth a visit. In the months it is open it's hours are 12 - 8pm.
Yes you can hire a boat in Looe. One of the newest businesses in Looe is Looe Self Drive Boat hire.
You get to captain your own Whaly boat with a 6hp outboard motor (so no rowing!) and can explore up the Looe River or out into the bay . All boats meet MCA standards and life jackets are provided.
The boats cost £37 per hour and can take 5-6 people and pets can come with you.
Looe Self Drive Boat Hire can be found in East Looe next to the Life Boat station
Millpool Slipway - this slip way is found at the top end of the Millpool carpark and provides good access for going up the Looe River or down toward the sea. Obviously the Looe River is very tidal so you'd need to check tide times. As it's next to the Millpool carpark it makes it easy to leave your car while you paddle.
The Quay slipway - Found in West Looe, opposite The Portbyhan Hotel. This is nearer the sea so more useful if you intend to paddle out to sea. Car parking is more limited round here so you may have to carry your Kayak a short distance
The Lifeboat Slipway - Obviously if you use this you'll need to be careful of Lifeboats since they take priority. This is the nearest slipway to the sea. Again, car parking is limited in this area.
