Looe is a popular tourist destination in Cornwall, England, and as such, parking can be difficult to find during the peak season. There are a number of car parks in Looe, both council-run and privately owned. The following is a list of some of the most popular car parks in Looe:
Millpool Car Park is the largest car park in Looe, with over 900 spaces. It is located on the Polperro Road on West Looe side of the river, just a short walk from the town centre. The car park is open 24 hours a day and charges vary depending on time of year. In peak holiday season (1st April - 31st October) it costs £2.30 for an hour, or £10.50 for 24 hours. Out of season it is free to park in Millpool carpark.
If you are in Looe for 3 or more days, it is cheaper to buy a weekly ticket, which is £26.30. The tickets can be paid in machines in the carpark or on the JustPark app (location code 8308)
Millpool carpark is the best place to charge your electric car (EV), there are 10 chargers in total in the carpark. 8 slow (7kwh) and 2 fast (50kwh).
Buller Quay carpark no operates an ANPR system (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) which means that your car details will be captured as soon as you drive in and if you haven’t purchased a ticket after the 10 minute grace period, you will be fined. Be aware that in Summer it can take 10 minutes to drive round this car park due to the congestion.
Buller Quay is a smaller car park with around 135 spaces and unlike the others in Looe it is not council run. It is located on the Quay, in the heart of the East Looe town centre. The car park is open 24 hours but due to it's proximity to the town centre and beach is more expensive at £1.10 for an hour with a maximum stay of 2-3 hours at £3.20. It gets full very quickly in peak season so getting there early is needed if you want to park in the centre of East Looe. You can pay via the Parkonomy website
Kilminorth Woods Car Park is a long-stay car park located on the outskirts of Looe and is adjacent to the bigger Millpool car park nearer the woods, but has a different pay structure. It is open 24 hours a day and charges £1.10 per hour and £6.30 for 24 hours. JustPark location code: 8199
East Looe Car Park is a small car park with around 30 spaces. It is located on the East Looe Esplanade, just a short walk from the beach. The car park is open 9am to 6pm and charges £1.50 per hour, with a maximum stay of two hours.
In addition to the above, there are a number of other car parks in Looe, including private car parks and on-street parking. It is always advisable to check the parking restrictions before parking, as some areas are only for residents or permit holders.
Parking along the road in Hannafore (West Looe) is a lovely place to park, it's free and you get great views of St George's Island and get to stop at the Hannafore kiosk before the short walk into Looe town.
Here are some tips for finding parking in Looe:
If you drive to Looe for your holiday and are staying for a week or more. Paying the daily rate for the carparks can be an expensive addition to your holiday since not all holiday cottages in Looe have a car park space, unlike Banjo Cottage.
So the cheapest way to park in Looe for a week is to;
1. find a road where it is free to park - Hannafore is a popular place for this but it is a good 15 minute walk from Banjo Cottage so may not be ideal if you are intending to go back and forth to your car a lot whilst on holiday
2. Buy a Weekly Pay on Exit ticket for the Millpool carpark in Looe. Whilst this may seem like a more expensive way to park, it actually works out cheaper for the week.
A weekly pay on exit ticket that covers Millpool car park in Looe costs £26.30 whereas paying the daily rate would cost you at least £73.50 for 7 days.
Buying your season car park ticket in advance will mean that you can come and go from the carparks as much as you like without having to worry about paying each time.
The barriers will automatically raise to let you out, but you do need to take a ticket each time you enter.
The seasonal car park tickets can be purchased directly from Cornwall council.
3. Book your Looe holiday at Banjo Cottage and you’ll get a permit for a free, reserved, space in Millpool carpark. You won’t get cheaper than free!
We are aware that the space in front of Banjo is small and there isn’t anywhere else to park next to the cottage. So, to help our guests we have purchased a reserved space in Millpool carpark. Banjo Cottage guests now have access to this reserved space in the Millpool carpark, for free, for the duration of their stay.
If your car is too big for the space in front of Banjo Cottage (and it is a small space that fits cars up to the size of a VW Golf) it now won’t cost you anymore to park in Looe. Once you’ve unloaded, you can pick up the permit from inside Banjo and head over the Millpool carpark.
Millpool is a pay and display car park so you can just drive in, head to the designated spot (found at the end of the carpark nearest the town). Park up, leave the permit on display on your dashboard and enjoy your holiday safe in the knowledge that you’re saving £26.30 for the week to spend on Cornish pasties.
